A solstice soundtrack for yule!
In a few days, it’ll be the second year now that we’ve celebrated solstice and yule!
I’ll have another post coming with how we’re celebrating, but solstice night we spend time together reflecting on the longest night of the year. Then, the next day, we celebrate yule, with presents, egg nog and other familiar traditions to mark the return of the sun and longer days. For this year, I wanted to find a soundtrack for solstice night.
The guidelines I had:
Find songs about solstice or yule
Any kind of secular holiday songs (Jingle Bells is one of our daughter’s favorite) were also okay
Avoid any songs that were overtly christian, or overtly pagan
After listening to a lot of somewhat mediocre music, I’ve got a playlist I’m pretty proud of! Two of my favorites are “Yuletide Comes” by Flora Ware, and Sting’s version of “The Snow It Melts The Soonest”. You can listen to it either in order or on shuffle.
If you have any other suggestions, leave them in the comments. Otherwise, happy listening, and wishing you a happy Solstice & Yule!
